Building the Economy

British Columbia’s emissions profile is quite unique compared to other provinces, allowing for a range of emissions reductions project opportunities.

Sixty per cent of our provincial export income comes from the resource sectors, much of it in rural communities. With a strong and stable price on carbon, BC has created new opportunities for offset projects in rural-based industries such as forestry and oil & gas.

At 37 percent, transportation is the single largest source of provincial greenhouse gas emissions. To help address this challenge, Pacific Carbon Trust is exploring a number of opportunities in this sector. For example, a protocol for BC’s resource and transportation industries will allow commercial/industrial vehicles and equipment operators to aggregate their carbon reductions into a viable offset project that will result in fuel savings, lower emissions – and a new source of revenue.

In addition to transportation, forestry and oil & gas, Pacific Carbon Trust has also purchased offsets from projects in the agricultural, residential/commercial and industrial manufacturing sectors.

Pacific Carbon Trust is continuing to build its portfolio, identifying new project opportunities across BC sectors and communities.
